Check out Wool&, WoolX, and Simply Merino for quality slow fashion merino wool items. Also Julahas for wool capes, for those who like that style. Many Zuri and Portland Leather Goods fans buy these brands.
I am glad you included online thrifting, but in person thrifting is also amazing. It takes time to build a closet this way, but being able to feel the construction or the fabrics will eventually gone your skill of seeking out quality in the rack. I am at the point now where I can just scan the rack and I can see real silk, wool, leather with my eyes. Sometimes I am fooled (especially by a really good vegan leather) but usually I am right. Thrifting also gives you pieces that gives your wardrobe a unique to you spin that you can't buy at Target
Thank you. I’m always concerned about being green washed, overcharged for clothing that claims sustainability or quality and doesn’t deliver. It’s also difficult to but online when you can’t try items on and there may be discrepancies in styles/sizes. Pact is the only brand on this list i recognize and have purchased from. I have some pieces i love and others I’ve been disappointed with.
Yeah I agree about Pact, but that's the same with any brand imo.
And I feel like there is always the possibility brands are not completely honest about their ethics/practices. I've had to remove a few brands since writing this post unfortunately. And there's the nuance that no one does everything perfectly. It's hard to navigate out there!
Hi Rachel. I think it depends on where we carry our weight. I’m 5’6 ish and a full B/small C cup bra. I’m curvier on the bottom. My legs seem to be thicker than I guess the average woman who wears a size 8. I haven’t had issues with my Boody brand Medium tops but the bottoms vary greatly. I know that wasn’t on the list but I love the silky texture of bamboo from rayon. I tried Spun bamboo brand and their sizes are significantly smaller and don’t hold up as well. I have Pact short and long sleeve tees and the medium short sleeves fit fine but the long sleeves tend to be way too tight in the sleeves.
I buy all my jeans from DL1961. They are pricey, for sure, but come in a bunch of styles, They have a family owned denim factory and are as sustainable as possible in their manufacturing, cotton sourcing and water usage, their jeans use 10 gallons of water to make per pair vs 1,500 for normal jeans. https://www.dl1961.com/pages/our-sustainability-practices-2024 they fit well and now I’m doing sashiko and visible mending on them when they get holes.
Over the course of a decade I have replaced just about all of my underwear and bras (leaving aside a couple of special occasion underwire bras) with underthings from Hanna Broer:
She makes them herself at her sewing machine in Vermont so we can’t blow her up TOO much hah since idk how much she would ever be able to scale, but her things are amazingly reasonably priced for being literally sewn by the business owner herself. Her bras are cheaper than a bra from, like, Thirdlove or somewhere, and the underpants not much more. And then everything lasts soooooooooo long in comparison to any mass-made underthings I think the cost per wear must come out to something reasonable.
FWIW, as a mega Prana shopper in the past, their quality has gone IMMENSELY downhill. They still have some solid fair trade practices on certain lines, but I don't recommend shopping there because of how poorly made the goods are.
After checking out both brands I added them to the list! Thank you for sharing! I love learning about new brands and the good things they are doing in fashion! 😍
Thanks for this! I hate everything about anything disposable with fashion high on that list, I am also not into clothes or shopping, but can’t run around naked. This is of quality goods I can wear for 10 years or more is JUST WHAT I NEEDED!

So true..in person thrifting is amazing. I found a scarf 100% Alpaca made in Bolivia for $3.- the other day impecable condition oh so soft and classy!
Yep! In person thrifting is also a great option!

I bought a Medium Size, since I usually wear size 10. Too small!! At 5’4” 130 lbs. I just can’t think of myself as large.

Thank you! I just got my new leggings from Pact yesterday. I do a blend of second hand and new, so a good list of where to purchase from is valuable!
Hooray! I hope you love them! And that’s such a great way to shop intentionally 💙
I absolutely love Thred Up, I shopped most of my wardrobe there as a second time mom looking for a closet refresh 💕💕
I love this! ThredUp is incredible!
I highly recommend Lora Gene. https://www.loragene.com/
