Travel Capsule Project {Scotland}
I was asked to create a travel capsule for a friend for her trip overseas...
I have a lot of ideas for what I want to offer as a personal stylist, but one thought that had not crossed my mind was capsule wardrobe creation.
A friend of mine from Colorado messaged me a few weeks ago asking if I would help her create a capsule for her trip to Scotland where she could use only a carryon suitcase. After I got over my jealousy of her trip (😂) I was happy to oblige and after I got into the project I realized this is something I’d love to offer to clients in the future. It was fun to put these ideas together for her.
And because I found it so satisfying AND practical, I asked her permission to share with all of you! Even if you aren’t heading overseas, I think these outfits are very fall/current and you can use them as inspiration for your own closet!
We did some messaging back and forth where she tried on pieces she was unsure about and we dialoged a bit about them. Here was the foundation we came up with for creating her capsule:
She will wear her riding boots on the airplane so she doesn’t have to pack them.
All pieces need to be highly versatile and create multiple outfits.
Avoid looking like an American tourist as much as possible.
Comfortable yet polished looks.
Here are the pieces we worked with:
Of course 23 pieces can create FAR MORE than 25 outfits but for the sake of ease and managing decisions on vacation, I only recommended 25 outfit choices. Also this way she can choose to leave a piece or two behind and still be left with plenty of choices.
I’ll throw in a quick tip here: when you are packing your own travel capsule, make sure you try on everything BEFORE you pack it. I made all these outfits as suggestions, but because we did not have an in-person or virtual consult, I could not see how the outfits looked when put on. Pay attention to the proportion, if it’s comfortable, etc. No one wants lumpy outfits or ill-fitting combinations. I know it takes time to try outfits on, but it’s better than bringing items you won’t wear.
I also added some suggestions/thoughts for her:
I had fun putting this capsule together for my friend and I’m sure she’s having a fabulous adventure in The Highlands in these well-curated outfits! Also shoutout to her because she did a phenomenal job taking pictures of the pieces of clothing for me. laid out well, on a white tile floor 🤌🏽 (those of you who are content creators who remove backgrounds know how important all that is 😅 So way to go Laura! I’ll have you train future remote clients how to do this! 😂)
Intentional outfits are important all the time, even during travel! Let me know in the comments if you think this type of personal styling service would be helpful! I’d love to know your thoughts!
Here’s to intentional closets, capsules or otherwise!
